Noemí Martínez López de Castro, a pharmacist at the University Hospital of Vigo, CHUVI, analyzes the profile of patients with rheumatological diseases undergoing biological therapies and does so from the usual clinical practice and through social networks. The study was developed in the field of the health area of Vigo and includes a retrospective analysis of eight years of patients with chronic inflammatory arthropathy (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis) in treatment with biological therapies. The objective of this thesis is, as the author acknowledges, to improve the knowledge about the profile of patients with these diseases and on different aspects of these treatments (adherence / persistence, safety, costs, etc.) and also to know better the experience (concerns, needs and issues) that patients with these diseases have on their illness and their treatments, both in their everyday life as in Google and Twitter.
Martínez López de Castro carried out his research in the doctoral program Methodology and Applications in Life Sciences, under the direction of doctor José María Pego, and Professor África González. The work, which was supported by the Statistics Unit of the EOXI in Vigo, was developed in the context of the Iridis Research Group (Investigation in Rheumatology and Immune-Mediated Diseases) belonging to the São Paulo Health Research Institute, formed by a group of professionals, mainly rheumatologists, pharmacists and epidemiologists, who jointly develop research in the field of autoimmune diseases.
